Stronsay is an active community with many groups, services and facilities that serve not only the local population but that are often available to visitors, too. Why not join in?

The following groups are always happy to have visitors join them. To find out if they’re meeting while you’re visiting, please check the Events Calendar or click on the link connected with the group.

Playgroup

For all pre-school age children and parents. Check the events calendar for dates and times of events.

Companions

An informal group for the over 50s. A chance to get out to meet other folk for a chat over a cup of tea or coffee.

Peedie Library

Once a month, the Moncur Memorial Church hall opens its doors to residents and visitors alike to borrow or exchange books and to meet with others in an informal setting with a cup of tea or coffee and a biscuit or two. See the events calendar or the church Facebook page for opening dates.

Bookworms

A readers’ group that meets monthly.

Stronsay Stitchers

Informal knit-&-natter-type group, meets last Thursday of every month in the church hall.

Beginners & more experienced welcome. Meets monthly in the church hall.

Craft Workshops

Craft workshops and pop up sessions throughout the year at Craftship Enterprise.

SWI (Scottish Womens’ Institute)

Meets monthly on  Wednesday evenings from September to May in the community centre.

The following facilities are available to visitors:

Stronsay Community Hall

A kitchen and fully licensed bar, with two large halls and a small meeting room available for hire; perfect for weddings, parties, games, meetings and much more! Disco equipment, table tennis, badminton, air hockey, pool table. Rooms for hire from only £2 per hour plus hydro charge. Adult supervision (over 18) must be present during hire. Healthy Living Centre

This facility which houses exercise equipment is located on site at Stronsay Junior High School. Though open to visitors, as mentioned below, bookings are required.

The opening hours are as follows:
• Monday 18.00 – 18.45
• Tuesday 18.00 – 18.45
• Wednesday 11.00 – 11.45 and 17.30 – 18.15
• Thursday 17.30 – 18.15
• Friday 11.00 – 11.45 and 17.30 – 18.15
• Saturday 10.00 – 10.45
Bookings need to be made 24 hours in advance either through the council website or by emailing stronsay.hlc@glow.orkneyschools.org.uk.
Memberships can still be purchased or patrons can pay as they go.

Swimming Pool

Located at Stronsay Junior High School, the pool is 15 metres in length and the depth ranges from 0.9 to 1.5 metres. A maximum of 12 in the pool at any one time.

Monday:  Public session 6:30-7:10  Adult lane 7:10– 7:50
Thursday: Private hire 6:30-7:10  Public session 7:10-7:50
Saturday: Private hire 2-2:40  Public session 2:40-3:20
Charges – Adults £3, Children £1.50, Private Hires £15.
