Useful Local InformationGetting Around

If you arrive by plane or boat and do not have your own transport, Stronsay offers a local taxi service, or you can borrow bicycles, free of charge, to get around on Stronsay. There are just a few main roads: the one that runs along the length of the island is referred to as the ‘Top Road’. The loop that begins just beyond the Fire Station is called ‘The Queen’s Drive’. We have maps and brochures to help you navigate the island, but if you are lost or confused, don’t hesitate to ask someone. Most of the natives are friendly!

Taxi/Minibus

Mick McQuaid at Bayview (Tel: 01857 616 376 or 07508 884 024) offers a taxi service to take you around the island. You can book a taxi to meet you at the pier or the plane, depending on how you arrive.  An 8 seater minibus is available for larger groups. If there is a particular place that you’d like to be dropped off for a walk or a swim, he’s happy to collect you from your accommodation and return you after your island adventure.

Stronsay Cycles

Cyclists riding around StronsayWe have a selection of well-maintained bikes including some electric bikes all of which can be borrowed by both residents and visitors. However, please note that children under 14 are legally not allowed to use electric bikes so we have four pedal cycles for ages approximately 10-14 . They are ideal for getting around Stronsay, but booking is essential. To book your bike, please phone Ross on 01857 616339 (Ebenezer Stores, Whitehall, KW17 2AR).
