Description:
We’re delighted to support the Stronsay Fieldwalking Survey, and volunteers are warmly invited to take part!
Continuing the successful work of Naomi Woodward in 2007, Ben Elliott from UHI’s Archaeology Institute will be leading three days of archaeological survey on Stronsay – 10th, 11th and 12th April.
The survey will involve fieldwalking – the careful searching of ploughed fields for archaeological artefacts, which are then systematically recorded. The aim is to help document the wider distribution of archaeological remains across the Stronsay landscape and identify evidence of human activity from different periods of the island’s past.
There are several ways to get involved:
• Join the team walking the fields to help locate artefacts
• Help with sorting and recording finds at the Stronsay Development Trust Community Greenhouse
This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to uncovering more of Stronsay’s rich history, and no prior experience is required.
If you’d like to volunteer or find out more, please contact Ben Elliott at:
